Intent
At Larwood School we recognise that some pupils may need to access learning remotely for short periods of time. This may be due to individual circumstances, reintegration plans, or participation in alternative provision such as our Pathways satellite programme.
Our aim is to ensure that all pupils continue to receive high-quality learning opportunities, even when they are not physically present in school. Remote learning allows pupils to maintain progress, stay connected to staff and peers, and continue developing their academic and personal skills.
We provide a flexible approach to remote learning that reflects the individual needs of pupils, particularly those with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Implementation
Remote learning may be used in situations such as:
- participation in the Pathways satellite provision
- short-term absence from school
- reintegration programmes
- medical or wellbeing-related needs
- exceptional circumstances where pupils cannot attend school
For pupils in Pathways, learning is typically delivered through a blended model where pupils access:
- 50% online lessons
- 50% on-site learning
Online lessons allow pupils to remain engaged with the curriculum while also benefiting from the structure and support provided on site.
Remote learning may include:
- live online lessons delivered by teachers
- recorded lessons or guided learning tasks
- independent activities and projects
- reading and phonics activities
- access to online learning platforms
Pupils may also use a range of educational resources, including:
- Chromebooks and school digital platforms
- Purple Mash
- Literacy Gold
- Boom Reader for home reading
- online curriculum resources and teacher-set work
Staff maintain regular contact with pupils during remote learning, offering support, feedback and encouragement.
Impact
Our remote learning provision ensures that pupils continue to engage with education even when they are not physically in school.
Through this approach pupils are able to:
- maintain progress in their learning
- stay connected with teachers and peers
- build independence and digital learning skills
- continue developing confidence and resilience
Remote learning also supports pupils who may need a gradual transition back into full-time schooling, ensuring that they remain part of the Larwood learning community.
